a Hardcover edition of The Pumpkin Plan
Read on !
The Pumpkin Plan was published on July 5th and I’m giving away a hard copy of the book (worth $26.95) – no strings attached. All you have to do is follow the clues in my scavenger hunt to work out where the book was physically on July 5th.
Yes, if you’re the first person to figure out where the book is I’ll send it to you wherever you are in the world. The rules are further on and also the first clue.
The Pumpkin Plan is as thought provoking as The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur. You see it’s all in the imagery and the style. There are loads of books on starting a business and on business success – I should know I’ve read lots of them – I’m even writing one but where Mike has the edge is the style and the imagery. Everyone knows in their heart of hearts what they need to do to make a business venture successful but it’s easy to gloss over it however when you think about toilet paper or pumpkin patches not to mention the one nut guy then it makes you more likely to do what you must do to make your business a success. Mike also gives you the processes you need to follow – processes he used to grow various business ventures to multi-million dollar businesses.
So what’s The Pumpkin Plan all about ? Well, using the analogy of the pumpkin farmer it gives the reader a simple but really effective strategy for growing a business in any industry. Here’s what you need to do:
- Plant the right seeds: Don’t waste your time with lots of ideas that may or may not work – identify the one idea that has the best chance of success and focus all your attention, money and time on it.
- Get rid of the losers: In any pumpkin patch, small, rotten pumpkins stunt the growth of the more robust and healthy ones. The same is true of your clients. Identify the ones who add the most value and provide the most opportunities for sustained growth and then fire the others – especially those who suck your time and energy, who struggle to pay on time (you know the one’s I mean!). There’s even a tourniquet method to cut them off before they start to stunt the growth of your business.
- Nurture the winners: Once you’ve identified your best customers you need to take good care of them. You should regularly ask them for feedback so that you know how you can serve them better. Mike also recommends that you under promise and over deliver.
In his chatty, occasionally kick ass style Mike takes us on a trip through the pumpkin patch, explains the pumpkin plan and shares case studies that demonstrate just how the Pumpkin Plan can be implemented in almost any sector.
